The Botlekspoortunnel, a 3-kilometer tunnel under Rotterdam harbor, is part of this route, replacing an older bridge and further streamlining rail traffic.
Connections to Italy: There are frequent and increasing rail services connecting Botlek (specifically the Rotterdam Botlek C.ro terminal) to Milan, Italy. Operators like Hannibal and Contship Italia Group are expanding these services, offering multiple weekly rotations and accepting various container types and semi-trailers. This route is crucial for connecting northern European destinations with Italy and beyond, including direct services to the UK and Ireland.
